For anyone traveling to the United States, a journey to Franconia Notch State Park in New Hampshire makes for an ideal vacation. But you don’t have to be a nature enthusiast to draw pleasure from your visit. With its privileged position in the center of the White Mountain Natural Forest, it offers a bounty of historic sites to see and blissful beaches to enjoy. So when you plan your trip, consider staying at one of the many cabin lodges fitted with a fabulous menu of modern conveniences or at any of the nineteen parks hosting camping facilities. If your adventure takes place in winter, you’ll have the opportunity to delight in fabulous cross-country skiing and to witness the dog sledding competitions popular in this regions since the early 1900s. The more adventurous will want to participate in the mushing challenges and perhaps aim for one of the awards. While at the Franconia Notch State Park you’ll want to see the famed “old man of the mountain,” the image of a man’s face naturally carved on the side of the rocks. It sits above the Profile Lake generally referred to as the “old man’s wash basin.” As you marvel in the azure of the waters, you’ll encounter breathtaking waterfalls descending to what looks like “the old man’s foot.” Keep in mind that these rock formations are the result of centuries of climate erosion making it even more impressive. Take a stroll along the Flume Gorge and hop on the cable car located on Cannon Mountain. It will take you to the New England Ski Museum worthy of at least an afternoon of your time. If you prefer to ride a bicycle, there’s an abundance of trails from where to observe hawks and falcons perched on the cliffs. Refresh with a delightful swim in Echo Lake or reel in a prize size trout. Head out to the home where Daniel Webster was born and to Endicott Rock, the most ancient monument in New England. Visit the beautiful estate where world renowned poet Robert Frost was inspired to write. Go to Fort Constitution and the home of Franklin Pierce to immerse in the country’s past. The Franconia Notch State Park has something for everyone.
